Lately we’ve been beginning to see a new trend in sports. Many athletes who have been in an altercation, or run in with the law have been rewarded with a second chance. I’m not old enough to remember, but through extensive..very extensive.. research I know that back in the day when athletes messed up their wasn’t much of an opportunity for a second chance. Of course we have the most famous redeemer of all redemption Michael Vick. Who was reinstated into the NFL earlier this season after being sentenced to 2 years in prison on dog fighting charges. The most recent case if redemption is the University Oregon’s running back LeGarrette Blount may be able to return to action this season after being suspended indefinitely. Just like anything else us as people go through trial and error. Sure, we know what’s right and wrong, but the purpose of life is to live and learn. So how about we do the young man a favor and let him learn from his mistakes and return to the game he loves.

Your Renewed Redemption piece is spot on. Times have changed and you are right, back in the day, these antics would not have been tolerated. But here is a little titbit – this past Saturday I was watching prime time college Football -Univ. of Miami vs. Oklahoma. The commentators gave a little bio on the 40 yr. old, Miami Head Coach Randy Shannon. The firm disciplinarian with high standards will have none of those ridiculous shannagins on his team. Due to a personal loss he suffered due to gun violence,Coach Shannon has a zero gun tolerance. Caught with a gun and you are off the team – no questions asked and second chances given. I agree.
P.S I say let’s give it up for Coach Shannon. High fives all around for the Hurricanes for their extraordinary game play and win over Oklahoma 20-21. Sean Taylor would have been proud.
Indeed, very good and fitting response. Coaches need to have more backbone and it begins in camp. When you address your team, specify the rules and code of conduct and enforce those rules to the fullest extent. Therefore, there might be less foolishness in sports.
Fantastic job on “Renewed Redemption”. So fitting for Mike Vick. Eagles are on a bye. Let’s see if Mike continues to redeem himself next week.
